Crisis Intervention
Respond more effectively when aggression and hostility begin to escalate.
CTI's Crisis Intervention program trains participants to cope with and respond effectively to individuals who are expressing aggression or escalating anger, resistance or hostility that may lead to violent behaviour.
The training combines self-awareness, communication, de-escalation, disengagement and stress-management strategies so participants can better assess a crisis, manage their own response and choose interventions appropriate to the situation.
Choose the level of training that fits your team.
CTI offers several Crisis Intervention formats, from introductory and refresher learning to advanced training and internal trainer development.
1-Day Introductory / Refresher
Foundational learning for new participants or a focused booster for teams reinforcing existing crisis-intervention skills.
2-Day Advanced
More in-depth development and practice in communication, intervention, de-escalation and crisis-response strategies.
3-Day Advanced + Physical Skills
Adds Physical Self Protection and Disengaging Skills to the advanced Crisis Intervention curriculum.
Practical skills for communication, de-escalation and safer crisis response.
Participants build both interpersonal awareness and practical intervention skills for high-stress situations.
Enhance Self-Awareness
Examine how personal history, experiences and reactions can influence a crisis situation and its outcome.
Defuse & De-Escalate
Learn effective defusing, de-escalation and disengaging strategies for responding to aggressive individuals.
Strengthen Communication
Review active listening, assertive communication and limit-setting strategies for conflict and crisis situations.
Use Verbal & Non-Verbal Interventions
Practise verbal, non-verbal and para-verbal interventions designed to de-escalate people at various stages of arousal.
Recognize Escalation
Build awareness of changing behaviour and emotional arousal so intervention can occur earlier and more deliberately.
Manage Workplace Stress
Study strategies for managing stress in workplaces that experience both acute and chronic crisis situations.
Match the intervention to the stage of escalation.
Crisis response is not one-size-fits-all. Participants learn to adjust communication, boundaries and intervention strategies as a person's level of arousal changes.
Accreditation
CTI states that Crisis Intervention training is accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and the First Nations Wellness/Addictions Counsellor Certification Board.
Build crisis-response capacity across your team.
CTI can deliver Crisis Intervention training to organizations in introductory, refresher and advanced formats. The course is suited to staff working in environments where conflict, aggression or crisis are recurring concerns.
CTI also offers Crisis Intervention Training-of-Trainers workshops, giving organizations the opportunity to build internal capacity to deliver in-agency training sessions.
